April 29: Season Opener

Can you believe it? We’re less than one week away from the first game of the season!

Season 11 is full of exciting new changes, and we can’t wait to show you what we have in store!

In travel team news, our B-Side regional travel team has joined forces with the TCRG All-Stars in the brand new All-Star Program. Both A and B teams are training together to share skills and strategy, and getting ripped together in a custom strength building program. Derby world, you don’t know what’s about to hit you!

On the home front, we have an exciting season schedule lined up! Not only do you get to see your favorite TCRG skaters this season, but we’re inviting local derby talent to join us on the track. Season 10 saw the retirement of many experienced players, so while we train up the rookies to fill their skates, we’re mixing things up a bit with the help of other local leagues. You’ll see exciting games against visiting teams, as well as a few new faces jumping in as pick-ups.

It all starts this Saturday, April 29th, at our double header Season Opener at Royal City Curling Club. The Bad Reputations will be facing off against Public Frenemy, followed by our very own Riot Girls taking on the infamous Team Dragon!

Don’t miss out as we kick off Season 11 with a bang. Get your tickets online or at the door, and join us for an action-packed night of roller derby!

April 29 Scores
BAD REPUTATIONS vs PUBLIC FRENEMY 231-158

Introducing … the TCRG Mix Tapes!

It may be the off-season for the house teams, but seriously exciting things are afoot with the Terminal City Rollergirls. We’re hosting B.C.’s first International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs September 16-18 at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Some of the world’s top teams from Canada, USA, Australia, and Sweden will be playing on our home turf. Make sure you grab tickets in advance!

But that’s not all. Drumroll please…

We’re proud to announce the launch of our brand new roller derby training program: The TCRG Mix Tapes!

The Mix Tapes program is everything roller derby should be: an inclusive environment for all skill levels to learn to skate, learn the basics of roller derby, and train to be drafted to teams.

Never skated before? We can teach you how to stop, fall safely, and learn a strong skating stride. Comfortable on skates thanks to a background in hockey or figure skating? You can quickly advance to and train with others in a group at your level. Not a lot of spare time, but hoping to skate when you can and enjoy the vibrant Vancouver roller derby community? We welcome you to participate as a drop-in.

Since 2006, The Terminal City Rollergirls has grown to be one of the biggest and most successful Roller Derby Leagues in Canada. What started out as a meeting over nachos with a handful of women has grown to a membership of over 150. Six teams, thousands of hours on skates, hundreds of games and tournaments, one All-Star team ranked among the top 20 in the world and several home grown skaters representing the league as part of Team Canada. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished in our first ten years. We’re proud of where the next ten years will take us. We’re the TCRG and we’re proud to be Ten Years Strong.

Grudge match goes to Bad Reps, the Mercury Shield goes to Public Frenemy

The Terminal City Rollergirls’ Season 9.0 wrapped up July 4, 2015 at Royal City Curling Club with a bang! First on the track was the grudge match with the Bad Reputations versus the Faster Pussycats.  The following matchup pitted defending champions the Riot Girls against the undefeated Public Frenemy in a bid for the Mercury Shield. Who would reign supreme?

In the match-up for third place, both the Bad Reputations and the Faster Pussycats were looking for redemption.  Both teams had lost in last year’s champs, and neither wanted to lose this match-up.  The Bad Reps hit the ground running, powering to an early lead due to the explosive jamming of Traumatic Acid and Loca Smoke-ya. For the Pussycats, tough blocker walls by the Bad Reps and jammer penalties for the ‘Cats hurt their chances of recouping the lost points. At half time, the Pussycats had 60 points to the Bad Reputations 101 points.
